Portillo's or Hot Diggity Dog?

Portillo%26#39;s seems to come up a lot when I search for Chicago style hot-dogs. Hot Diggity Dog will be real close to our hotel (Embassy Lakefront). Is it worth the trip to Portillo%26#39;s if we want to taste the real Chicago style hot-dog? And how about America%26#39;s Dog at Navy Pier, which we will visit anyway?

Portillo's or Hot Diggity Dog?

Portillios dogs are pretty decent. I%26#39;d skip the food at Navy Pier.

Portillo's or Hot Diggity Dog?

Hot Diggity Dog is an absolute dump. I would avoid it. Portillo%26#39;s is good but nothing special and a bit out of your way. There is a good hot dog place on Rush between Chicago and Pearson (don%26#39;t recall the name -- it is on the west side of the street). It is a block off Michigan Ave. and about a 10-15 minute walk from your hotel.

Gold Coast Dogs has a location on the 400 block of N State; walkable from the Embassy Suites Lakefront. They have a couple of locations on Wabash too (and others, per Google search).

Mmmm hot dogs: http://www.greasefreak.com/hotdogs.html

Avoid Hot Diggity Dog!

Portillo%26#39;s is a very good place downtown. Gold Coast Dogs and America%26#39;s dog are also very good places.

The problem is that my favorite places (Wiener%26#39;s Circle on Clark and Superdawg on Milwaukee Ave) are outside of downtown, as well as the king of very different dogs, Hot Doug%26#39;s.

I was a big fan of Gold Coast Dogs, but I%26#39;m pretty sure the State Street location is closed.

The nearest one would be on Wabash, just south of Randolph.

Adding t o this:

I am not a big fan of Weiner Circle (great place after a lot of beer, but not so good at other times) but realize that other people don%26#39;t share the opinion.

However, if you agree with the Weiner Circle fans and decide to make the trip, then WC is not far from Lincoln Park Zoo. Fullerton is at the north edge of the zoo. Walk west to the first major street (Clark -- it runs at an angle), and then make a right to go north. WC is about four block north. It is set back from the street, on the west side of Clark. The walk should be about 15 minutes. You could then take a bus back down Clark Street to get into the area of your hotel.

IMHO, I wouldn%26#39;t recommend the Weiner Circle for a family, especially one with younger children.

Portillo%26#39;s is the king of all dogs, I%26#39;d get there...maybe more than once :)

It’s a ';HOTDOG';, not much you can do with it, go for the atmosphere and location you like.

did u know they put mayonnaise on the hotdogs in mexico?? amazing...and it was quite tasty!

Boston blackies has a killer jumbo hot dog...but its not chicago style. I love Portillos!

If you have time, stop by the Weiner Circle at 2am...just for the experience! Maxwells is a pretty popular greasy hot dog stand as well
