If you do not mind a major budget hotel, you could try the Tokyo Hotel. I have not stayed there, but rooms are $52. a night. It may house some transient city dwellers. There is also no air conditioning. But it is in an excellant location, just a few blocks from Michigan Ave. Good luck.
