best transp. ohare to embassy lakefront

Okay, so we will be ';country come to town!'; We aren%26#39;t that bad, promise, but you%26#39;ll think so when you read my question.

Never been on a subway or ';el,'; never ridden in a cab.

So, the el looks intimidating to get to Embassy Suites Lakefront because of the transfer. But, is it easier than it looks? Three of us, one carry-on bag each. I don%26#39;t mind walking a bit, but I%26#39;d say 1/2 mile will be my limit after the flight!

If we take a taxi, how much is it going to be? Since we are so naive, is there a chance we%26#39;ll get ripped off and driven around town for two hours? Are taxi fares per person, or do three ride for the same price as one?

I%26#39;ve seen this airport express website. Are they reliable? I%26#39;m assuming its just a van they pack with people to take you to your hotel?

We%26#39;re coming in around 4pm on July 4th. I%26#39;d be willing to take the el back to the airport on the 7th, because by then we%26#39;ll be pros.

So, after chuckling a bit, please advise on what%26#39;s best. Thanks!

Don%26#39;t let the trains intimidate you. They%26#39;re very easy to use. Transitchicago.com for information. A CTA visitor pass might come in handy for your visit. If you%26#39;re not comfortable with transferring, take the blue line train to Clark/Lake. From there, take a cab to your hotel.

A cab from ORD downtown will be around $40-$45. The meter starts at $2.25, then increases $.20 for each additional 1/9 of a mile. There is an extra $1.00 charge for for the first additional passenger over the age of 12 and under the age of 65, and $.50 for each passenger after that. There is no extra charge for baggage or credit card use, and tipping is optional. Most cab drivers are honest.

Airport Express is reliable. There%26#39;s a discount coupon on their web site.

You%26#39;ll be just fine. I%26#39;m originally from Hoosier farm country myself, so I speak with experience.

You can travel Chicago by foot, bicycle, rollerblades, horse-drawn carriage, Segway, water (swimming, boat - sail or motor, jetski, kayak, paddleboat, skulling or canoe), train (ground, El or subway), bus or cab. (Yikes! Did I miss anything?) Why not try to do all - or most - when you are here? Then you%26#39;ll never have to say you never did it again.

Chicago%26#39;s public transportation is very easy to use, even the transferring part. And you%26#39;ll be surprised how fast you get the lay of the land, since the city is on a grid system.

Not sure from your post if you are flying into Midway or O%26#39;Hare. If Midway, you take the Orange Line downtown. If O%26#39;Hare, the Blue Line. Both lines terminate at the airports so only one way you can go to get here! :)

Instead of walking with the carryons, I%26#39;d just take the El into the city and then grab a cab to the Embassy Suites Lakefront from the station. If you are of the sort who packs to the gills for a three-day trip, then choose a station with an elevator. If you pack very lightly - small suitcase - then just choose whichever station is closest, if you can navigate stairs easily.

There is an extra charge for each extra adult person in a cab. Tipping is optional, of course, but I always give an extra tip (on top of any other tip) when luggage is involved. If you look at the City of Chicago%26#39;s website, you%26#39;ll see a list of the charges as well as the Passenger%26#39;s Rights listing. If you have a problem with a particular cab or driver, they all have to post the information in the passenger compartment of the cab where to file complaints with the city. Just remember the name of the cab company and the cab number (also has to be posted in the cab) - as well as the driver%26#39;s identification (there will be a photo of the driver there as well).

Hope you have a wonderful time here.

I guess it helps to read the title of the post in determining information! :P

Yes, the Blue Line is what you want to take in from O%26#39;Hare.

Look who%26#39;s chuckling now! :D
