Anyone have any suggestions for a hotel for the following scenario?
Arriving in Chicago Friday, Oct. 19th for 2 nights. Will be coming thru Union Station. We%26#39;re seeing Wicked Friday evening so would like something close to the theatre district. We are planning on going to Shedd Aquarium Sat. the 20th and will probably do some shopping on State St.
There are 5 of us, all female, 3 sisters in their 40%26#39;s, one 23 year old and one 16 year old. We%26#39;d like a suite that would accomodate all of us, but realize we may have to get 2 rooms. We%26#39;d like to stay under $300 a night, the cheaper the better, of course. I%26#39;m a Marriott Rewards member, is one of the Marriott%26#39;s located in the theatre district?
Thanks much for any help.

The Marriott best in this scenario would be the Residence inn, but that%26#39;s not where you%26#39;re looking to be - that%26#39;s towards the North end of the North Michigan Ave. area.
The Marriott Mag Mile may also accept 5 in a room, but I think it%26#39;d be a tight fit. That would still be on Michigan Ave, but not as far North as the Residence. The Renaissance Marriott would be the closest to where you want to be, but I don%26#39;t think they accept 5 in a room, at least in their regular rooms. Neither do the two Courtyards (which are also by Michigan Ave), I believe.
At this point (I think it%26#39;s still a little far off and rates may drop a bit), the best non-Marriott in this case would probably be the newer (opened earlier this year) boutique-style Hampton Inn Majestic, which is in the theatre district. That is $239 refundable (although please read the fine print to double check) via the Hotel website. Free breakfast, as well.
Were you looking for $300 total or $300 per room? Unfortunately, there%26#39;s nothing very reasonable this far in advance. You may want to lock in the Hampton now or another refundable reservation and then jump to another hotel if you find a better deal.

By ';the Marriott best in this scenario'; being the Residence Inn, I meant that, since it has 2 bedroom rooms, it would be best for 5 people. It%26#39;s not the best in terms of location for what you want to do.

We were looking for $300 total. I know from my last trip up there in April that travelzoo usually has some good deals and that it%26#39;s still early, but I saw another post that mentioned a marathon in October, so that got me to thinking I%26#39;d better at least get started on looking for a room now.
The Hampton Inn price sounds good. I think I will reserve that since it%26#39;s refundable and still look for a bargain closer to the time we come.
Thanks so much, you always have such good hotel advice. I appreciate your help!

No problem, happy to help! :-)
The marathon is the weekend of the 7th, so that you don%26#39;t have to worry about. There is a smallish physicians convention (5,000), but that should have much of an effect on rates. No larger conventions are scheduled during this time period.

I did reserve a room at the Majestic, however they didn%26#39;t have any suites available. I got a room with 2 queen beds for $219. Not sure if that is going to work out or not, but since it%26#39;s refundable, I went ahead with it.
Also, I am now thinking it might be better to get two rooms after all. It would be nice to have more than 1 bathroom to share. Any ideas for a hotel in the area we want that might have connecting rooms or are connecting rooms a thing of the past?
The Palmer House has rooms with 2 beds and 2 bathrooms, but they are still not ';suite';-sized and, at least on the website, they don%26#39;t appear to be available for these dates.
The Renaissance Marriott has Executive Suites with 1.5 bathrooms for $409 per night, but they have a max of 4 in the room and the other issue is that there is only 1 king bed and 1 sofabed in that room. Also, you apparently don%26#39;t get the Club Floor benefits over the weekend.
';Executive Suite is a One Bedroom Suite w/King Bed and separate
Living Area w/Sleeper Sofa * 1-1/2 Baths * Fabulous Corner Views
of City %26amp; Chicago River * Full Access to Club Floors %26amp; Lounge
**Club Lounge Closed Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon**
Rate requires a Friday or Saturday night stayover';.
That exec suite is 800 Sq. Ft. They also have a larger suite (1,000 sq ft.) for $459, but it also has only 1 bed/1 sofabed and also has a 4 person max listed.
You might want to give them a call for more details if you%26#39;re interested.
